Naturalist Workshop — Learning (and illustrating) Morel Mushrooms - May 17th 2-3:30pm

$50.00

May 17th 2-3:30pm
Instructor: Jonathan Case

Jump into morel mushroom season (peaking May-June) with award-winning author/illustrator Jonathan Case (Little Monarchs, Over the Garden Wall, Batman ‘66, Dear Creature) as he brings his experience with naturalist illustration and foraging into a workshop that combines natural science education with approachable drawing techniques!

There’s no better way to start identifying mushrooms than by observing real specimens in a safe and fun guided session.

In this workshop, Jonathan provides students with freshly foraged examples of morels and their closely associated plants. Students will learn important background about morel mushrooms and record their unique details through notes, drawings, even splashes of watercolor!

Observational drawing is a means to see and capture the world in a way that makes sense to you as an individual. Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist (or a mushroom lover!), this workshop gives you a chance to slow down and explore these fascinating natural specimens in a low-pressure and accessible environment.

In this 90 minute workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Details about morel mushrooms and where/when to find them

  • How to avoid “lookalikes” and develop your foraging knowledge methodically

  • Drawing methods to capture important details with simple tools

  • Watercolor techniques with field-friendly brush pens

  • Preparation and cooking tips for morels

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS

All materials provided! Naturalists under 12 are warmly welcome to attend with an adult!
