Homeschool Art Lab is a welcoming weekly studio experience where young artists build confidence while learning the foundations of drawing and painting in a fun, encouraging environment.
Each class begins with a guided lesson from 2:00–3:00 PM introducing a new artistic concept and project. From 3:00–5:00 PM, the studio transitions into Open Studio, where students may continue working on projects, explore sketchbooks, socialize with friends, and receive individualized support while developing their creativity.
Families are welcome to stay and enjoy the creative experience together or drop off students who are ready for independent participation. Students are welcome to stay for the full three-hour studio experience or be picked up anytime after the guided lesson.
During this first six-week session, Foundations of the Artist, students will explore:
• Observation through still life
• Color theory and color mixing
• Texture and expressive mark-making
• Light and shadow
• Composition and design
• Developing their own creative voice
No previous art experience is necessary. All supplies are provided.
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS:
• Creativity
• A positive attitude
• Optional snack and water bottle
ABOUT THIS INSTRUCTOR:
You may know Michelle Isaksen from At Easel Art, where she has spent years helping children and adults discover the joy of painting through fun, encouraging, step-by-step instruction. While her downtown studio has closed, Michelle continues to teach paint parties, children's art camps, homeschool art classes, and community workshops throughout Silverton and the surrounding area.
As both a professional artist and homeschooling mom, Michelle believes everyone can learn to create beautiful artwork with the right encouragement and guidance. Her classes focus on building confidence, developing artistic skills, and creating a welcoming space where every student can explore their own creativity.
Michelle serves on the Board of Directors for the Silverton Arts Association and is excited to continue inspiring the next generation of artists through hands-on, imaginative art experiences.
This program is subsidized through our Art for All subsidy program — making quality arts instruction to Silverton available at reduced costs! Scholarships are also available for those in need: Please inquire at info@silvertonarts.org
Please select the number of total students to enroll, then submit a clearance form for each student here: https://www.silvertonarts.org/youth-class-registration
