Thread Intuition

Unleash your creativity with the magic of plants, thread, and imagination! In this two-part Sunday workshop, you’ll learn to coax gorgeous natural hues from local leaves, flowers, and minerals—then turn them into your own hand-dyed embroidery threads. Guided by an expert instructor, you’ll combine dyeing and stitching techniques to create a one-of-a-kind textile artwork that’s as unique as you are.

No experience needed—just curiosity and excitement to create! All materials are provided, so simply show up ready to explore, experiment, and be inspired.

ABOUT THIS INSTRUCTOR:

Native Oregonian Rio Wrenn has devoted 20+ years of her art practice to rust printing and using natural dyes in her work. She combines her own processes with traditional practices from Japanese, Indian and Native American cultures and grows and harvests many of the materials she uses—plants, insects, rust, trees and berries—to dye her textiles. Her rusting process is an expression of the ephemeral and natural aging and decay in life.

Wren has studied at the Art Institute of Seattle in Interior Design, the Cornish College of Arts in Furniture Design, and holds two degrees: BA in Interdisciplinary Art and BFA in Sculpture from the University of Washington. She has been teaching processes and techniques since 2013 locally and as a traveling instructor.  and /or  In 2023 she, published her debut book Spirituality of Rust - A Sacred Language of Iron Through Art
