Summer is almost here, and the Arts Association has so much happening! Let’s talk about it:

NEW FUNDING AWARD

In May, we were fortunate to receive a $20,000 grant for general operating expenses through our partners at Oregon Community Foundation! Our board is at work to build a pathway towards an executive director position for the Arts Association in 2025, and funding awards like these greatly assist in that goal.

RESIDENT ARTIST PROGRAM

Our resident artist programming is moving into a new phase: To help the Art Center keep consistent hours during high season, we’re creating a special opportunity for an artist (or two!) to make use of a dedicated corner of the Borland Community Arts Space, not only during open hours, but with off-hours access throughout the week. A monthly stipend is included for the months of June, July, and August! For more information, please visit our resident artist summer program page.

SUMMER ARTS

Our summer art camps for kids have proved incredibly popular, with many sections already sold out!

See our youth programming page for camps, and sign up while there are still spots. And, if you’ve already signed up, check out our info page for parents and guardians about what to bring on camp days!

Did you know we have an art camp dedicated to movie-making, taught by local filmmaker Mike Turner (The Way we Talk, Monument, and more)! Available for kids ages 11-16! Check it out.

Speaking of which…

The 2nd annual Silver Falls Film Festival will be a celebration of film and storytelling in Oregon's beautiful Willamette Valley, hosted by the Silverton Arts Association. Our first event was held outdoors in Coolidge Park, the beautiful centerpiece of Silverton, with 150 people in attendance and food and drink vendors to celebrate the occasion.

Selected short films will screen on an event in late August, 2024 — venue and date to be determined soon. We hope to highlight creative voices from around our neighborhood, and around the world– submit your film and join us!

PEOPLE’S ART IN THE PARK

From Arts Association Member Joe Craig:

July 13 is People’s Art in the Park 2024!  All artists/craftspeople are invited to join this non-juried outdoor show in the yard at Silverton Arts Association (SAA), 303 Coolidge St, Coolidge-McClaine Park, Silverton.  Here you can sell your creations with no commission.  Bring your crochet/knit items, woodworking, ceramics, paintings, cards, hats, toys, dolls – whatever you have created.  And that’s the only requirement – they’re items you created – no reselling.  Your space can include items your family made, friends, a club, adults, kids – pretty much anyone.

Your 10x10’ space cost is $25 (cash or check) and registration is Saturday June 15 from 11:00am-12:00noon at SAA with proceeds going to the Arts Association programs. There will be free coffee and snacks for participants.  Show hours are 9:00am to 3:00pm rain or shine.  So show up early (7:00?) and get your space set up and enjoy your day meeting people, talking with other artists and selling some of your beautiful creations!
