With another art-packed summer wrapping up, we’re looking forward to a fall season focused on more improvements to the Silverton Art Center.

This month, we’ve engaged a local contractor to help us make much-needed repairs to the Art Center’s exterior so that volunteers can more easily follow up with a fresh coat of paint — no scraping or patching required.

We’re also making plans to improve the classroom side of the art center with new flooring, new shelving units for art and supply storage, and an easy-to-use projector system for teachers and open studio participants.

We’d love to have help from members with the following projects:

• Sweeping and dusting Art Center and Park House building exteriors

• Painting the Art Center (materials provided, just bring yourself in your paint clothes!)

• Sorting and donating unused books and materials from the classroom

• Restoring/removing the old fence at the Park House

We’d like to concentrate as much work as we can to one fair-weather weekend day in September so we can help build connections while we all love on the building! Right now, we’re looking at Sept 21st and or 22nd. Please let us know what project(s) you’re available and interested in, by filling out the following intake form. The second Silver Falls Film Festival, rescheduled to August 30th because of weather, ended up on a perfectly clear and warm evening — just right as a capper to our summer season. The selected films came from locals, movie-makers from other parts of the world, and our own summer film camp students. The projects were funny, sad, vulnerable, and all together heartening. Several attendees remarked that it was the best night at the movies they’d had in a long time!

Thanks to Mike Turner for running this event, and to the panel of judges who gave their time and energy to selecting the films.
