Hi there– I wanted to introduce myself. I’m a local filmmaker and board president of the Silverton Arts Association. AND on Thursday afternoons I teach the After School Arts Program with cartoonist Jonathan Case. This program features small class sizes and intimate mentorship in new media– filmmaking, comics, animation, and much more, for teens. 

This program is consistently the highlight of my week. The students are so creative and collaborative– we’ll often warm up with a drawing exercise, then move on to their big works, which are often short films that they work on as a class. Right now, a new student is directing her first project, a time travel ice cream movie. Her older brother, who at first was very shy, has come into his own as an actor– he’s playing both the ice cream man and the wizard who sends the main characters back in time, and he always has the class laughing. Today he started storyboarding his first film.

I’m so grateful to the Silverton Arts Association for providing Jonathan and I the space to make this magic happen. Look for the students’ work this summer at the Silver Falls Film Festival!

Applications Are In… Now the Magic Begins!

The application window for the Silverton Arts Festival has officially closed—and wow, what a response!

We an incredible number of submissions from talented artists near and far, each bringing their own unique voice, vision, and craftsmanship. From bold and contemporary to timeless and traditional, the range and quality of work has been nothing short of inspiring.

Our jury began the thoughtful (and no doubt spirited!) process of reviewing each application. It’s never easy—especially with such a strong pool of artists—but it’s all part of shaping a vibrant, diverse, and unforgettable festival experience for our community.

To all who applied: thank you. Thank you for sharing your work, your creativity, and a piece of your story with us. We are truly honored. To all the selected artists, we can’t wait to see the show in August!

And to our community: get ready. This year’s festival is shaping up to be something special.
