Over the last year, the board of Silverton Arts has been hard at work preparing the way for a new Director of our Association. After receiving dozens of applications and interviewing a number of candidates (thank you to all who applied), one person stood out to us as an ideal fit for our current needs and future goals. We believe she also embodies the high value we place on art — art as agency, art as inspiration, art as community. We’re excited to introduce you to the new Director of the Silverton Arts Association: Her name is Tomi Douglas, and we think she’s fantastic! Tomi has a passion for both the arts and public service that’s led her through an impressive and varied career. Just a few highlights: She’s been the Director of Cultural Services for the City of Eugene, Senior Membership and Sales Manager for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Director of Marketing for Portland Center Stage, and Executive Director for Benton County’s Natural Areas, Parks, Art, and Events Divison. How’s that for a fit with our little operation in Coolidge McClaine Park? Tomi currently consults in communications, public affairs, and local government. Her clients include the cities of Seattle, Eugene, and Portland, the Paul Allen Foundation, Cirque du Soleil, and the Newport Symphony. She also coaches high school debate! Tomi lives in nearby Turner, Oregon with her partner, Jeff, and three good dogs. When you next visit the Borland Community Arts Space, you’ll also find she also has excellent taste — evidenced by her choice contributions to our vinyl record collection. But enough from us!
