You’ve probably noticed the signs around the Art Center — “Temporary Mess, Continual Progress” — and that’s because we’ve been busy sprucing things up! Our September upgrades were made possible through a generous grant from the Roundhouse Foundation, deep discounts from the Building Materials Bargain Center, and the time and talents of our amazing volunteers. And guess what? We’re not done yet… more improvements are on the way which we will feature in next month’s newsletter.

Here’s the behind-the-scenes
magic that made it happen:

The Timeline:

September 2024 – Dream it up! Research pricing, design, and create a plan.
Oct–Dec 2024 – Rally the troops! Get the board + community on board.
Jan–Mar 2025 – Grant-writing season. (Lots of coffee was involved.)
May 2025 – Cha-ching! Grant money awarded.
Jun–Sep 2025 – Assemble the dream team of volunteers.

What it cost:

Cabinets + countertop: $2,500
Paint, screws, baseboard, painting supplies, décor, plants, clock, signs, cleaning supplies, backsplash (aka the sparkle): $700 in volunteer donations
Labor: 100% love + volunteer power

NOTE FROM THE BOARD

The SAA board of directors wants to let our community know that Art Center director Tomi Douglas has stepped away from her role at Silverton Arts. We wish her all the best, and thank her for her time and energy invested here since April!

We hope you’ll understand our need to respect Tomi’s privacy in her determination to make this change. For now, SAA’s leadership responsibilities are again being fulfilled by our volunteer leaders — Board President Jonathan Case, and Programming Director Anne Pinkowski, and our other board members. COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE

A Community of Practice is a group of people who come together around a shared passion or skill, learning from one another through regular practice, conversation, and collaboration.  Whether you’re curious to try something new or eager to deepen your skills, our Communities of Practice are WELCOMING and FREE. 

These groups are open to all skill levels—beginners, dabblers, and seasoned makers alike. Come as you are, bring your curiosity, and connect with others who share your love of art, poetry, meditation and music.

Consider participating in these groups:

Wood Carving meets every Wednesday 1pm-3pm in the Silverton Arts Classroom

Painting meets every Thursday 10am-12pm in the Silverton Arts Classroom

Meditation and Mindfulness meets every Saturday 2-3:30pm in the Borland

Poetry Group meets the 2nd Sunday of each month 2:30-4:30pm in the Borland Native American Flute Circle meets the 1st Sunday  1-4pm in the Borland
