Silverton Arts Association - Who We Are
Silverton Arts Association History... The Silverton Arts Association (SAA) began in 1968 when a handful of local artists joined together in support of each other and the visual arts. Today SAA is a non-profit organization with an average membership of 140 artists and patrons of the arts. A fifteen member working Board of Directors includes four officers and three employees, a part time office coordinator, and two part time education coordinators. The Board governs and manages the day to day activities of this community-minded association. There are eleven standing committees made up of dedicated members and volunteers who work year-round to meet the art and cultural needs of Silverton’s citizens.
The Silverton Arts Association current Art Center is located in the beautiful, seven acre Coolidge-McClaine Park. The picturesque Silver Falls Creek runs through part of the park and behind the Art Center. The Art Center includes the Borland Gallery, the Greenough classroom, an office, kitchen and supply room. The recently renovated Park House also sits on the Silverton Arts Association campus, providing classroom space for children’s art programming and more.
Silverton Arts Association interfaces with approximately thirty community service groups such as Silverton Together, the Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, Silverton Senior Center and the YMCA. Many board members work closely with these organizations to provide a wide variety of services and opportunities to the people of Silverton. SAA also gives financial and volunteer support to community events that are sponsored by these agencies.
