Summer Art Camps at Silverton Arts Association 
feature hands-on creative learning in small groups, facilitated by experienced educators who know how to engage kids in arts based activities. 
Each camp facilitator has gone through a thorough background check and interview process.

Meet our Summer Camp Facilitators

Tina Rutland is the Director and Head Teacher at Silverton Arts Association’s Park House Pre-school. Tina has over 15 years experience in early childhood education,and has been teaching preschool classes, art camps, and music & movement classes for 6 years with the SAA. 

Desta Sirrine is the Assistant Teacher at Silverton Arts Association’s Park House Pre-school. Desta has been teaching Lego and art classes for the past 4 years with the SAA, and assistant teaching at various preschool classes and art classes in Salem. She has a passion for helping children learn through play, and Lego is one of her favorite mediums.

Lisa Gerlits is a Silverton native who has been making and teaching art since she could hold a crayon and tell her younger siblings what to do. She loves inspiring creativity in others and getting messy with kids. She studied art in Portland, London, and Amsterdam.

Carole DeMar is a certified expressive arts group practitioner and life long artist whose disciplines include painting, mixed media, sculpture, assemblage, fiber arts, creative writing and story telling. Carole has been designing and facilitating arts based experiences to encourage creative self expression in others for over 30 years. She is the founder and lead facilitator of Girls Kree-8TM - Arts empowerment workshops for girls.

Pre-school Art Camp: “Little Picassos” - Ages 3-5
June 19-22 (4 Days) M-Th 10:00am - noon

This camp encourages young artists to touch, feel, smell, create and explore while participating in a variety of age appropriate art experiences. We love to add an occasional story and music to keep your busy body happy! Come scribble, paint, tear, glue (and more) with us! Facilitated by Tina Rutland, Director and Head Teacher at SAA’s Pre-School.

Cost: $60 SAA members / $66 non-members (Includes all materials)

Lego Camp: “Bricks and Pieces” - Ages 5-10
June 26-28 (3 Days) M-W 9:00am - noon

Playing with Lego bricks helps develop fine motor skills and sparks creativity! Campers will be inspired as they create awesome Lego structures, play Lego games, and see who can build the tallest tower or the fastest car. Each day will feature a Lego themed game, activity, or challenge, and at the end of the day, campers will display their creations for parents to take pictures! Children will bring home their own mini-figure at the end of the camp. Facilitated by Desta Sirrine

“Art in Nature” Camp - Ages 7-11
July 10-13 (4 Days) M-Th 9:00am - noon

Let your imagination grow in the great outdoors. This camp will explore art inspired by and using objects in nature. Rocks, sticks, trees, flowers, dirt, water—inspiration is everywhere once you step out the door! Note: Camp includes taking walking field trips from the Park House classroom. Facilitated by Lisa Gerlits

“Girls Kree-8” Art Empowerment Camp for Girls - Ages 9-12
July 17-20 (4 Days) M-Th 9:00am - noon

Girls Kree-8TM workshops are designed to empower young girls through fun & inspiring art projects that foster creativity, nurture self esteem and promote self confidence. This unique four day camp experience, infused with art making, creative writing, music, movement and so much more features a variety of artistic mediums including painting, print making, collage, sculpture, fabric arts, and jewelry design. A truly magical experience with a powerful message! Facilitated by Carole DeMar

Cost: $95 SAA members / $104 non-members (Includes all materials)
